PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
John D. Sollinger is a mosaic artist, educator, and former biology professor whose work
connects glass, natural systems, perception, and material structure. After doctoral and
postdoctoral work in biology, he began mosaicking in 2007 and rapidly developed a distinctive
glass-based practice. His mosaics have received international recognition, entered museum
collections, appeared in books and periodicals, and been used in advertisements by glass
companies and mosaic organizations.

His current work emphasizes mosaic as a field-based visual practice shaped by tessera
relationships, light, color, support, layering, and image emergence.

CORE IDENTITY
Mosaic artist working primarily in stained glass, glass-on-glass systems, colored sheet-glass
supports, and layered optical structures.
Originator and instructor of the Dry Direct Double Flip Method, also called Fluid Double
Reverse.
